It is a glass box filled with materials such as coins and documents that were stored in it at the time the school was built in 1925.
According to the professionals who made the discovery, some materials inside the box were partially damaged by water infiltrations.
Nevertheless, many items are still in perfect condition, such as a copy of the first edition of the newspaper The Ayrshire Post from June 19, 1925.
Also found in the box was an envelope with the following message:
“Whoever finds this, can keep everything. Current coins of the Realm. William Reid, Master in Works of the Ayrshire Educational Authority.”
Now, the box is heading to the Ayrshire Archives Center, located on the outskirts of the city of Ayr, also in Scotland, where it will be opened and examined.
The experts in charge of the time capsule found in Glasgow are celebrating the discovery, which will be displayed to the public after undergoing an appropriate treatment process.
In an interview with Ayrshire Live, Stephen Ferry, the education portfolio holder of the South Ayrshire Council, talked about the importance of the finding and confirmed the intention to exhibit the items from the box to the public.
“The time capsule is a fantastic discovery and a lasting legacy of the old Carrick Academy,” he celebrated. “We will ensure that the items are kept on permanent display at the new Campus Maybole.”
Martin Kilbride, the current holder of the Buildings, Housing, and Environment portfolio of the South Ayrshire Council, also celebrated the discovery and spoke of the historical significance of the finding.
