Apple scored a mixed victory in a patent infringement lawsuit against medical device maker Masimo. The federal jury concluded on Friday that Masimo had indeed infringed on certain Apple patents. As part of the verdict, Apple was granted a mere $250 as a statutory remedy for Masimo’s infringement.
The $250 awarded to Apple represents the statutory minimum damages for the alleged infringement, a figure that Apple specifically sought, according to Bloomberg Law reports.
During the closing arguments, Apple attorney John Desmarais emphasized to jurors, “We’re not here for the money.
“The jury found that Masimo’s W1 smartwatch, Freedom smartwatch, and health module violated one patent, while its charger infringed on another, as outlined in the verdict form. Additionally, the jury determined that Masimo’s infringement was willful.
