The recent announcement from Boeing regarding a 10% reduction in its workforce to cut costs has resulted in company-wide layoffs affecting employees in various roles. One anonymous employee shared his experience after receiving a notice that his last day would be on Nov. 27, with a deadline of Dec. 2 to return company hardware.
Despite hoping to be retained through the holidays, the employee, who has been with Boeing for five years, found himself facing the reality of the layoffs. The employee, working at the Everett Factory in fulfillment, expressed disappointment as this was his second experience with being laid off by the company in three years.
The layoff process includes a timeline outlined by a KING 5 source:
- Nov. 13-15: Layoff notices given
- Nov. 18: Employees receive layoff documents and are eligible for career transition services
- Nov. 20: Employees attend a virtual layoff meeting
- Jan. 2: Deadline to complete layoff documents
- Jan. 17: Laid-off employees depart from the company
Reflecting on the situation, the employee expressed a mix of emotions, stating, “You know in the back of my mind I’m like crap it could be me, but I didn’t legitimately think it would be. So I definitely don’t want to come back here at least any time soon. I thought I would be a little more sad but I’m honestly more frustrated and kind of mad with the company.”
