The suspension of X in Brazil, imposed by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes on Friday (30), has boosted the migration of Brazilian users to alternative platforms, especially Bluesky.
These services had already been attracting dissatisfied users since Elon Musk’s purchase of X in 2022, but the judicial decision significantly accelerated this process. Bluesky, for example, reached a peak of 2.07 million posts on Wednesday (28).
According to a report by Folha de S. Paulo, Portuguese became the predominant language on Bluesky, accounting for 73.7% of the posts between Friday and Saturday, surpassing English, which had 16.5% of the posts, according to data released by the platform.
Meta, taking advantage of the situation, heavily promoted Threads, using its base of over 2 billion Instagram users to attract new members. So far, Meta has not commented on the increased interest from Brazilian users.
Bluesky reported a significant increase in the number of Brazilian users, with over 880,000 new registrations in just two days, bringing the total to around 7 million active users.
The platform also launched an update to reduce toxicity in the online environment, including features such as separating original posts from quotes and the option to hide responses, aiming to improve the quality of interactions.
