In a shocking incident, a bullet hit a Southwest Airlines plane at a Dallas airport, leading to the cancellation of a Friday evening flight, the airline confirmed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident, and authorities were informed after the bullet struck the right side of the aircraft underneath the flight deck. The crew of Flight 2494 was in the process of preparing the plane for departure from Dallas Love Field Airport when the incident occurred, Southwest Airlines stated.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft was hit by gunfire near the cockpit as it was taxiing before its scheduled flight to Indianapolis International Airport at around 8:30 p.m. The plane promptly returned to the gate, and all passengers disembarked, as per the Federal Aviation Administration’s report.
Subsequently, the aircraft was taken out of service for further inspection, ensuring the safety of the passengers. Southwest Airlines assured that alternate arrangements would be made for the affected passengers to reach their destination.
Dallas Love Field Airport provided additional information via social media, confirming that the Dallas Police Department responded to the incident. As a safety measure, runway 13R/31L was temporarily closed but later reopened the same night with minimal disruptions to the airport’s operations.
