President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva argued on Wednesday that the State has the obligation to guarantee opportunities for the poorest people to also be able to “succeed in life”, and not to cater to “mega-entrepreneurs who only care about asking for billions”.
In his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the campus of the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro in the Olympic Park, Lula also stated that he wants the highest sectors of society to understand that his government only seeks to “elevate” the poorest people in the social scale.
He also criticized the “misconceived” notion that investments in education are expenses, adding that such argument demoralizes the Brazilian public service.
