The Brazilian formal market generated a total of 244,315 formal jobs in March, accumulating a total of 719,033 formal vacancies in the first quarter of the year.
The result was positive in the month for four of the five major economic activity groups and in 25 of the 27 states in the federation. As a result, the total stock recovered for the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged) was 46,236,308 formal jobs.

ervicesCONTINUE AFTER ADThe sector that generated the most jobs in the month was services, with the generation of 148,722 positions, followed by commerce (37,493), industry (35,886), and construction (28,666).
Only the agriculture sector had a negative impact, with a loss of 6,457 jobs.
The states with the highest job generation were São Paulo, which created 76,941 jobs, a growth of 0.6%, with a highlight in the services sector that created 46,451 positions; Minas Gerais, with the creation of 40,796 jobs (+0.9%); and Rio de Janeiro, which created 22,466 jobs (+0.7%) in the month.
CONTINUE AFTER AD1st quarter resultsIn the first quarter (accumulated from January to March 2024), the five major economic activity groups recorded positive balances, with the largest growth seen in the Services sector, with a balance of 419,286 formal jobs, a total of 58.3% of the balance.
The highlights were the activities of public administration, defense, social security, education, human health, and social services, which generated 179,470 positions, and the activities of Information, communication, financial activities, real estate, professional, and administrative services, which created 143,050 new positions.
CONTINUE AFTER ADIndustry had a balance of 155,461 jobs generated, with a highlight in the manufacture of motor vehicles (13,605) and the manufacture of food products (13,540).
The Construction sector generated 109,911 positions in the 1st quarter, with higher increases in building construction (45,630) and infrastructure works (27,286).
Agriculture also had a positive balance in the quarter, with the generation of 19,278 jobs, with highlights for apple cultivation (6,122) and soybean cultivation (5,181).
The year-to-date total could have been better, except for the poor performance of oranges, which lost 13,155 jobs in the period. The Commerce sector showed good recovery in March, achieving a positive result for the first time this year, with an accumulation of 15,091 positions.
Among the Federative Units, the highest accumulated balance occurred in São Paulo (213,503), a growth of 1.5%; Minas Gerais, with the creation of 88,359 positions, a growth of 1.9%; and in Paraná, with the creation of 69,618 positions in the year, a growth of 2.3% in the quarter.
Population groupsIn March, the balance was positive for women (124,483) and for men (119,832). With regard to the Population with Disabilities, the balance was positive, with the generation of 558 jobs.
In terms of color, the balance was positive for browns (220,547), whites (138,032), and blacks (44,491), being negative for yellows (-2,793) and indigenous (-1,946).
