In an expanding market, the five largest atacarejos (cash & carry stores) in Minas Gerais earned nearly R$ 25 billion in the last year.
The Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras) gathered the figures and revealed this month which are the largest networks in the state. Together, they total 317 units spread across the municipalities of Minas Gerais.
At the top of the ranking of atacarejos in Minas Gerais, and in seventh position on the list of supermarkets nationwide, is MartMinas, including its Dom Atacadista banner.
With 81 stores, the network earned R$ 9.43 billion in 2023. Nevertheless, it lags behind Supermercados BH, a retailer that earned nearly R$ 17.4 billion in 2023 and is the only Minas Gerais network in the top 5 nationwide.

The president of the Minas Gerais Supermarkets Association (Amis) reaffirms that the sector is growing, but makes a clarification, in a statement from the entity:
“It is important to clarify that the atacarejo segment continues to expand strongly, but here an explanation is necessary: many units of this segment were opened from the expansion and transformation of neighborhood and hypermarket stores converted to the new service model, however, this does not mean the creation of new points of sale.”
The largest atacarejo in BrazilNationally, the largest atacarejo is Atacadão. The network has 361 stores in the country and a turnover of R$ 79.11 billion. Behind it is Assaí, with 288 stores and a turnover of R$ 72.80 billion.
Together, the 23 atacarejo networks reached R$ 300 billion in the last year, distributed among 2,041 stores in Brazil, employing 369,412 people directly.
