The President of the United States, Joe Biden, stated on Monday that he is willing to meet with the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, to discuss a bill to fund Ukraine’s war against Russia, and said that Republicans are making a mistake by opposing it.

In an earlier vote this month, the Senate approved a $95 billion assistance package that includes funding for Ukraine, but Johnson has so far refused to put it to a vote in the House, which Republicans control by a slim margin of 219 to 212. He is demanding a meeting with Biden.
“Sure, I’d be happy to meet with him if he has anything to say,” Biden told reporters upon returning to the White House after a weekend in Delaware.
Biden said that Republicans are making a big mistake by opposing aid for Ukraine to use in its war against Russia’s invasion.
Congress is set to return on February 28th, with an urgent deadline to prevent a partial government shutdown that will begin on March 1st if lawmakers do not take action. Some are discussing alternative bills or ways to overcome Johnson’s objections, but all these options come with their own uncertainties.
Biden, a strong critic of his likely election opponent Donald Trump and other Republicans for threatening not to defend NATO allies if they do not pay enough for common defense, said that Republicans are making a big mistake by “turning away from the threat of Russia” and “turning away from NATO.”
